Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

ONLY ONE CRIME TO REPORT IN THE LAST 24 HOURS – A THEFT OF A MOTORBIKE

NO BURGLARIES

AND

NO CARS BROKEN INTO

FIRST: More than 1000 homes secured from burglary

This week, the Thames Valley Police Neighbourhood Teams, the Royal Borough's community safety team, and dedicated volunteers, have helped distribute SmartWater kits to homes across Windsor and Maidenhead.

The kits include a solution which is dabbed onto valuable personal items and is almost invisible unless using a UV light.  Each kit has a unique DNA code registered to the SmartWater member, which enables marked items, if found, to be returned to their owners.

Officers will also work with local partners and businesses to scan for the solution on property for sale in second-hand outlets to ensure criminals aren't using the businesses to dispose of stolen property.

Video showcases Embedding Community Response project

The team behind the Embedding Community Response project has produced a YouTube video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqTNVlIk_JQ

to showcase our approach to asset-based community management and inspire more residents to get involved, as the project expands into Maidenhead following a successful pilot in Clewer and Dedworth.

https://rbwmtogether.rbwm.gov.uk/clewer-and-dedworth

The project helps people to come together to develop and lead on initiatives that matter to their communities, using their own skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm.

The team is now inviting people in Maidenhead who are passionate about where they live and want to make a difference, to share and explore local priorities and aspirations at one of the regular network meetings held on Zoom.

Next:  Be wildfire aware

As part of their week-long campaign (Monday 26 July – Sunday 1 August), Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) reminds you to take simple steps to reduce the risk of a wildfire breaking out.

Wildfires can be very dangerous, spread quickly and threaten people, property, and livestock. They can start from cigarette ends and even discarded glass bottles which can magnify sunlight.

There are simple steps you can take to reduce the risk of accidentally starting a wildfire such as extinguishing cigarettes properly, not lighting a campfire in the countryside, and only lighting barbecues in designated areas and not leaving them unattended.
