Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

A GOOD WEEKEND:

NO BURGLARIES

NO THEFTS FROM CARS – ONLY 2 ATTEMPTED THEFTS FROM VANS.

FIRST:  A question from Mike, re Video Doorbells:

Hi Jeff

I am thinking of installing a video doorbell and recall that you posted an item regarding this recently. I now can’t find it, can you please send me a copy.

Regards

Mike

Mike will not be alone – We have several volunteer NHW Video Doorbell information Gurus, who very generously, offered their time and valuable experience and expertise, to advise those of us, who are confused, not only with the number of companies now providing them and their differences, technology involved – do I need Internet, how are they powered, but what exactly they are, what do they do, how do they work, what are they capable of doing, are they just fancy doorbells, or can I add other cameras both inside and outside my home, are they simple enough for those of us, who are new to this type of technology, to operate – etc. etc. etc.

Our Gurus have put together a website of frequently asked questions.  It is good and should be everyone’s first port of call.

https://sites.google.com/view/videodoorbells/getting-started

If after having looked through the information provided there, you still need help, a referral can be made to the Gurus though Valerie Pike, the Chair of the Windsor & Ascot NHW Association.  She is brilliant and will pass you onot one of them.  Her contact details are:

contact@windsorascotnhwa.org.uk

NEXT:  HAVE YOU BEEN A VICTIM OF A SCAM / FRAUD – OR AN ATTEMPT – WHAT DO YOU DO ?

If you or someone you know, believes they have been the victim of a Scam / Fraud, their first port of call should be Action Fraud – who take all reports of Scams & Frauds.  That is important, as it gives the authorities an overview of all these types of offences that are taking place.  If Action Fraud believes the matter needs investigation – they forward the details and the victims contact details to us, for investigation.

It is very simple to report online and as you will see from their front page you click on the box for – you reporting a fraud / Scam as well as another box for I am reporting on behalf of someone else:

https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

There is also an online chat  / help facility to talk to someone – online.

If the person doesn’t have internet – they can phone 0300 123 2040

People share their experiences with me, so that I can warn everyone else about what local people are receiving, rather than very generalised national information.

I am always happy to share anyone’s experiences as a real story from a victim or a potential victim, carries more weight than my saying – just put the phone down !!!

NEWS UPDATE FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Hi, I am Valerie Pike, Chair of Windsor & Ascot NHW Association. The Association was formed in September 2019 and our objective was simply to help residents. In setting up the Association, we asked
How can each of us
·       help to make our community safer?
·       improve its spirit and neighbourliness?
·       help the Police to reduce local crime?
·       make our own home security better?

Starting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in your street is easy, and it’s free. Police statistics show that a Neighbourhood Watch scheme significantly reduces the probability of your house being burgled.

Neighbourhood Watch is about neighbourliness and making our communities and homes safer. It’s about being friendly and caring, and watching out for the elderly and vulnerable too.

Members of Neighbourhood Watch are assisted in a number of ways, including  having  free  home  security  surveys  conducted  by  a  local PCSO, to identify any areas in which security can be improved, and to advise  on  optimum  ways  to  safeguard  against  crime  and  improve personal and household security

But most of all Neighbourhood Watch is about helping the Police to keep us safe. They need the support of people who care. If that’s you - join us now!
Please contact us on contact@windsorascotnhwa.org.uk and we will be delighted to assist.
