Alert message sent 25/08/2020 16:09:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following an attempted murder which occurred in Oxford.

The incident took place between 11pm and 11.30pm last night (24/8).

An altercation took place in Manzil Way Gardens between a group of about 15 men, all aged in the 20s and 30s.

The altercation then moved up the Cowley Road and into Leopold Street.

During the course of the incident two men, aged 32 and 24, sustained stab wounds. Several others were also hurt but not seriously injured.

The two men who were stabbed were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector James Mather, of Oxford CID, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, which resulted in two people sustaining stab wounds.

“We have launched a full investigation, and as a result, two people have been arrested.

“However I would like to speak to anyone who has any information which they think could help our investigation or which could help us identify all of those who were involved. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who has dash-cam footage of the incident, or who has any mobile phone footage of the incident.

“If you have any details which you think could be relevant, please call 101 quoting or report online quoting reference number 43200265232. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Superintendent Joe Kidman, local policing area commander for Oxford, said: “Following the incident, a neighbourhood operation has been put in place and you may see more officers patrolling the area to reassure our community and keep people safe.

“There is a Section 60 Order in place for an area of east Oxford which enhances stop and search powers. This will be used by local officers in an intelligence-led way to prevent further incidents.

“If you are stopped by an officer, please don’t be concerned – it does not mean you are in trouble. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please feel free to approach officers and ask.”
