Police Apprenticeships - register your expression of interest

Thames Valley Police (TVP) is introducing new apprenticeships across both police officer and police staff roles for everyone from college leavers to career changers. Launching in 2019, the below entry routes will transform the way new recruits develop, building an effective workforce, fit for policing in the modern era.

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

The PCDA will be a three-year apprenticeship programme to becoming a Police Constable combining on-the-job practical learning and operational competence with academic learning, resulting in formal degree qualification. 

The PCDA provides individuals the opportunity to earn a competitive salary whilst achieving a degree with zero student fees to pay. The first cohort will begin in mid-late summer 2019.

Degree Holder Entry Pathway (DHEP)

TVP recognises that learning doesn’t have to stop after University. The DHEP is a two-year programme to becoming a Police Constable aimed at individuals who already hold a degree-level qualification. New starters will be warranted officers from day one and will work towards achieving a Diploma in Policing.

Police Community Support Officer Apprenticeship (PCSOA)

2019 will also see the introduction of the PCSOA – PCSOs are the face of the police within local communities. They play an integral part in delivering effective neighbourhood policing, providing a visible presence on the streets of our communities which acts as a deterrent. 

Contact Management Apprenticeship (999/101 Call Handler)

As a 999/101 Call Handler, you’ll play a critical role in our response to emergencies, taking down vital details from the caller or coordinating police assistance. As part of the initial training, Call Handlers will complete an apprenticeship in Contact Centre (Emergency Services and Integrated Care). 

Police Staff Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are an established way of recruiting into many departments at TVP, with opportunities already offered in a number of departments, including:

  • Forensics
  • Learning & Development
  • ICT
  • Corporate Communications
  • People Services
