Appeal for information after two linked distraction burglaries – Aylesbury Vale
Thames Valley Police is appealing for information after two similar distraction burglaries in Ludgershall and Aylesbury, which are being linked.
At approximately 7pm on Wednesday 12th April the victim, a 76- year-old woman, heard a knock on the back door of her home in West View, Ludgersgall. When she came into the kitchen, there was a man inside the property who claimed to be fixing a water leak. He distracted the victim by making her turn the kitchen taps on and off, and while she was doing so he took cash from her purse.
The offender is white, in his thirties or early forties, and described as short. He wore a cap, and spoke with a foreign accent.
In the other incident, at approximately 7.30pm on the same day, the victim, an 84-year-old woman, answered the front door of her home in Cleveland Road to two men claiming to be dealing with an emergency water leak. One of the men entered the kitchen while the other went into her living room. The victim was able to remove both men from her home, and they ran away down Cleveland road towards Turner Close. Nothing was stolen during the incident.
Detective Constable Luke Pratt of Force CID said: “These are two deplorable incidents where two vulnerable women have become the victims of crime in their own homes.
“I’d urge anyone who saw suspicious activity in Ludgershall or Cleveland Road areas on 12th April, to get in touch with us by calling 101 and quoting reference number 43170106919 for Ludgershall or reference number 43170106824 for Cleveland Road.
“Criminals such as these rely on finding a way to scam their way into people’s homes, and I’d like to take the opportunity to remind residents not to buy, sell or sign up for work on the doorstep no matter how urgent your visitor says the work is. Genuine tradespeople will have identification and will encourage you to close the door on them while you check with the relevant authorities or as a friend or family member for help.”
